Mel Gibson is the director of Brave Heart and plays the lead role as William Wallace, a Scottish warrior who exemplifies honor and nobility.

The story begins with the young Wallace whose father and brother have been killed during the battle to take over Scotland. Wallace was raised by his uncle and years later he returns with the intent of living a simple life. Many have been after him to join their battle against English but he refuses to go. He finds his childhood love Murron and they got secretly married. However when his wife was killed by an English soldier he gathered a platoon of foot soldiers to join him in an all out war against English domination. He unified his nation in a battle against England. They won famous battles against English before he was captured and executed. His dying cry was “FREEDOM!” His name will live on as a legendary man who freed Scotland.

Defending freedom is a choice. It is up to each one of us to strive hard to achieve the independence that we want. However, we should always bear in mind that freedom also entails responsibility. It is our responsibility to take care and make proper use of the freedom given to us.
